Program Description

Pickup from the hotel and start with visiting "Cidade de Goa", the original name for the ‘city of Goa’ which was established in what is now called "Old Goa". Alfonso de Albuquerque established the Portuguese presence in Goa and was later assisted by St Francis Xavier in establishing the Portuguese territory in Goa. Comprising of the Basilica Bom Jesus dedicated to Infant Jesus, it enshrines the sacred remains of St Francis Xavier. The other churches worth seeing are those of St Cajetan, St Francis of Assisi, Se.Cathedral and Church of St. Monica. Their unique architecture boldly depicts their strong sense of design and heritage. The Museum of Christian Art is one of its kinds in Asia and has priceless collection of objects such as Rosary's and items of Gold and precious stones. The Archeological Museum is also worth a visit. Travel to “Solar Souto Maior”, an aristocratic Manor dating back to 1585 now carefully restored and renovated. It houses a treasure trove of artifacts. Return to Panjim, capital of Goa, driving through the city to see its colonial architecture. Take a leisurely walk through Fontainhas, whose distinct Iberian architecture displays the unique lifestyle during the Portuguese days. Walk through the busy streets of Panjim and shop for gifts and souvenirs. Later proceed to Reis magos Fort From its origin as a defense fortress, to being used as a jail and then a hospital, the fort has served the state since 1493. The fort has been restored and also serv as a museum. After this point, return to the hotel.
