Program Description
You may know Carlsberg from supermarket shelves, pubs or restaurants, but in Copenhagen, you can discover the story that goes far beyond the label. Home of Carlsberg takes you to the place where the story of the famous Danish brewery began in 1847. Here, you’ll discover the people, ideas and craftsmanship behind a brand that would eventually become recognised far beyond Denmark.
At the heart of this story are J.C. Jacobsen and his son Carl Jacobsen. They shared a family tradition but had different approaches to brewing and developing the brewery. As you learn about their lives and contrasting views, you’ll discover how their decisions influenced Carlsberg and shaped the direction in which the brewery developed.
Not every trace of the past can be found above ground. Fourteen metres underground, historic cellars await, filled with exhibits and stories that bring the brewery’s past to life. As you explore them, you’ll learn about the different stages of its development and the legacy built here over generations.
And since the whole story began with beer, it is only fitting to end your visit with one. Your ticket includes a beer or a soft drink - choose your drink and raise a glass to the story behind Carlsberg.
One beer can have much more to tell than its label suggests. At Home of Carlsberg, you’ll discover that story right where it all began.
