Program Description
Discover the charm of the capital of Skyros during a walk through picturesque Chora, where narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and local craftsmanship create the unique atmosphere of a Greek island. This excursion is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the culture, history and everyday life of Skyros.
Walking along the town’s main street, you will see traditional handicrafts, local shops and tavernas where you can try regional specialities. Along the way, you will admire the characteristic traditional Skyrian houses, which have become one of the symbols of the island.
During the tour, you will also visit old churches and chapels hidden among the narrow alleys, adding to the special atmosphere of Chora. The route leads up to the Monastery of Saint George, the patron saint of Skyros, located on top of the hill. From there, you can enjoy beautiful views over the town and the Aegean Sea.
An important part of the excursion is a visit to the Faltaits Folklore Museum and the Archaeological Museum, where you will discover the island’s culture and history dating back to prehistoric times.
Between the museum visits, there will be a stop at the monument dedicated to the British poet Robert Brooke, who died on Skyros in 1915. The statue stands in a square overlooking the Molos area and the Aegean Sea.
The order of visits and the programme may change.
