Program Description
This option combines two exceptional attractions in Amsterdam - ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo and Micropia. At ARTIS, you will discover the world of animals, plants and historic architecture in one of the oldest zoos in the world, while at Micropia you will explore the fascinating world of microorganisms that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo, founded in 1838, is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands. Covering more than 10 hectares, it is home to around 700 animal species, including Asian elephants, African penguins, reticulated giraffes and jaguars. Be sure to visit the renovated Kerbertterras - a former lion enclosure inspired by the landscapes of Madagascar. Today, ring-tailed lemurs, red ruffed lemurs and radiated tortoises share this habitat.
ARTIS is much more than just a zoo. You can stroll among monumental buildings and explore the botanical garden, home to rare trees and exotic plants. The park also features an Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, offering an even closer look at the diversity of the natural world.
Your visit also includes access to the ARTIS Planetarium, where you can learn more about stars, planets and space. During the day, you can check the schedule of zookeeper presentations and discover more about animals such as jaguars and Asian elephants. Younger visitors can also enjoy educational attractions and play areas.
The second attraction is Micropia - a museum dedicated to microorganisms. It shows how important these organisms, invisible to the naked eye, are and helps visitors better understand their role in the world around us. Combining ARTIS and Micropia gives you the chance to explore nature on both a large scale - through animals and plants - and at the level of its smallest forms of life.
