Program Description
Microorganisms accompany you every day, although they remain invisible to the naked eye. At Micropia in Amsterdam, you'll discover the remarkable impact they have on people, animals and the planet as a whole. It is the world's only museum dedicated to microorganisms, where science meets modern technology, allowing you to explore what usually remains hidden from view.
The museum is located next to ARTIS Zoo, just a short distance from Amsterdam city centre. From the very beginning of your visit, you'll immerse yourself in the invisible world of extraordinary organisms that surround us every day - in the air, on our skin and inside our bodies.
During your visit, you'll see live cultures of microorganisms, look through state-of-the-art microscopes and explore interactive exhibits that clearly explain how these tiny organisms function. You'll learn how they contribute to food production, support human health and help maintain the balance of nature. You'll also have the opportunity to discover laboratory work and see how scientists study organisms that play a vital role in life on Earth.
